Rob Miano The mid-1990s was Miano time at Ramapo High School, at least on the football and baseball fields. And for Rob Miano, Class of 1995, the memories are about the players and the teams, not necessarily about the games and the championships won. Miano was a major part of the 1993 undefeated Ramapo football team which defeated Wayne Hills. One of the few underclassmen on a senior dominated team, he scored 108 points as part of a devastating backfield duo with Dan Milazzo, who also scored 108 points, in becoming one of only five backfield duos in Bergen County history to reach the Century Club in football in the same season. Rob earned multiple all-NBIL and all-Bergen County honors throughout his football career, a career that saw Ramapo win 23 of 28 games before a left knee injury in practice midway through his senior season ended his football career, a month after he had earned the Record’s Athlete of the Week honor. Fortunately for Miano, he always considered his better sport to be baseball and he excelled at that through four varsity seasons as a starting infielder for the Green Raiders. A shortstop for his first three seasons, an arm injury forced his shift to second base as a senior and he helped Ramapo to an excellent year and a spot in the Bergen County and State Sectional tournaments. Rob hit and ran well enough to earn multiple all-NBIL and all-Bergen honors. He bagan his collegiate career at Seton Hall and transfered after his freshman year to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he enjoyed two more successful baseball seasons. In his final year of baseball, he drove in the winning run for the Tar Heels in a NCAA tournament win over a Miami team led by future major leaguers Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell, putting them a game shy of the College World Series. Rob is a software consultant and lives in Waldwick.
