Mike Pagliara






Mike graduated from Ramapo in 1968 with six letters to his credit: three each in basketball and baseball.  On the diamond, he was second in the county in batting in 1968 (.412) and earned All League, All Suburban, All County, and All State honors.  As a basketball player, he held the record for most points scored during a game and earned All League, All Suburban , All County, and All State honors as well as twice being named Athlete of the Week.

After Ramapo, Mike went to UMass on a full scholarship and was the point guard for his junior and senior years.  In his junior year, he was the point guard for Dr J.(Julius Erving).  He also played with present BC men’s basketball head coach Al Skinner, former Oriole pitcher Mike 
Flanagan and U. Louisville Head coach Rick Pitino.   Mike was team captain his senior year. He is still  #6 on the UMass career record list in free throw percentage with a .781 and still holds the present record of a .900 shooting percentage during one season.   Mike’s junior and senior year team compiled a 45-8 record.  UPI selected Mike to the “Small All American Team” for players under 6’ and he was awarded the prestigious Oswald Behrend Award given to a scholar athlete whose achievements best exemplified the courage, desire, sportsmanship, and rich philosophy of Oswald Behren, Class of 1917.

Mike currently lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Voneta, and children, Nicolas (29) and Michelle (30).  He is a Construction Superintendent for a new home builder and enjoys painting and tennis.  As a matter of fact, he is an accomplished USTA amateur tennis player; once reaching the finals at Flushing Meadows the week before the US Open started.
