Coach Vinnie Minelli

Vinnie Minelli is one of the most successful basketball coaches in Ramapo High School history. Always draw to athletics, Vinnie was a three-sport athlete at West Orange High School, then went on to play basketball and baseball at Upsala College.

Vinnie started teaching at Ramapo in 1959. After five years, he went over to our brand new sister school, Indian Hills, and became its first Basketball Coach. After several years, Vinnie gave up coaching and became a Guidance Counselor there. In 1987, Vinnie returned to coaching as an Assistant Varsity Coach at Ramapo under Stan Kaminski. Upon Stan’s retirement eight years later, Vinnie took over as Head Coach.

Vinnie coached the Raiders Varsity Basketball team for eight years, earning a 171-42 record. He received the Suburban News Coach of the Year four consecutive years, won seven NBIL Division 1 titles (including six in a row), three State Sectional titles, qualified for the County and State tournaments every year he coached, had six consecutive twenty-win seasons, and held a NJ record of sixty-nine straight home wins and forty-nine straight NBIL home wins.

In 1995 Vinnie retired from coaching and teaching after thirty-six years in the Ramapo Indian Hills district. He is remembered for his professionalism, work ethic, and dedication to his students, players, and coaches.

Vinnie and his wife Carol live in Florida, where they enjoy their retirement, playing tennis, and spending time with their grandchildren.
