Lizanne Coyne

This 1986 Ramapo graduate earned 11 varsity letters and excelled in three sports: soccer, basketball and softball. Lizanne not only lettered in three sports, but excelled to the point that she was named All-County in all three sports, as well as the YMCA Bergen County Female Athlete of the Year and the Ramapo Female Athlete of the Year for 1986. It was soccer, however, where she left her greatest mark—helping to forge that great Ramapo girl’s soccer tradition—and also enabled her to earn a scholarship to Providence College.
Lizanne earned three varsity letters in soccer and scored 99 career goals. During her varsity years, Ramapo’s record was 67-2-1 and she won three NBIL Championships, three Bergen County Championships, and two State Championships. Her 1985 team was named Team of the Decade and that same year she was the leading scorer in Bergen County. For her outstanding efforts, Lizanne earned All-NBIL, All-County, All-Suburban, All-Area and All-State honors in both 1984 and 1985. In 1990, she was named to the All-Decade (1980-1990) Bergen County Soccer Team.

A forward in basketball, Lizanne earned four varsity letters. Her Ramapo teams were State Sectional Champions in 1984 and NBIL Champions in 1985. In 1986 she was named Team Captain and set a single season scoring record of 444 points. She finished her career with 854 points. As a sophomore, she was named Sophomore of the Year by the Ridgewood News. In 1985 and 1986 Lizanne was named All-League, All-Division and All-County.

Turning to softball, Lizanne played second base for four years and was again named Team Captain her senior year. That same year she was named to the All-League and All-County teams.
At Providence, Lizanne became that school’s fourth All-Time scorer and was nominated for All-America. Her 1989 team was an ECAC finalist.

Besides her degree from Providence, Lizanne earned two Masters Degrees, one from Norwich University and one from Columbia. She is currently the Assistant Headmaster at Barnstable Academy in Oakland, N.J., where she continues to coach youth soccer as well as co-direct the GOALs Soccer Camp.
