John Loeschhorn Cross Country Track

John Loeschhorn is a 1962 graduate of Ramapo who excelled in both track and cross-country. His outstanding running ethic has continued beyond high school and college and today still finds him setting distance goals. As a varsity cross-country runner from 1958-1961, John was individually undefeated his junior and senior year. Running varsity track from 1959-1962, John excelled in the mile run. In this event, John was NBIL Champion, Bergen County Champion in both 1961 and 1962, and State Mile Champion in 1962. He was also the State AAU Champion in 1962, setting the New Jersey State Record at that time. His personal best time in high school was 4:17:4. After graduation, John ran for NYU where he was a 3-time Metropolitan Collegiate Champion in cross-country and ran a personal best mile of 4:10.1. After a tour of duty in the United States Air Force from 1967-1972, John continued running and in 1974 placed 11th in the National AAU Marathon Championship with a time of 2:24:22. In 1968 he completed the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Race across the Sierra Mountains from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California, placing 5th overall and being featured on ABC Wide World of Sports. Settling in Orange County California, John managed several athletic shoe stores from 1975-1991 and became a police officer in Anaheim, California from 1990-2004. Presently semi-retired John lives with his wife of 40 years, Gail, in Irvine, California. John has one daughter and two grandchildren. But being a grandfather hasn’t slowed John down. Besides currently running 400 miles a month, his goal is to run a marathon at age 61 under 3 hours.
