Chris Elliot Class of 1970 Cross Country Track Chris Elliot earned 10 varsity letters at Ramapo, all of them for his running ability. A year round runner, Chris starred in cross-country as well as indoor and outdoor track. As a four year varsity cross-country letter winner 1966-1969, Chris led the 1969 team to the Group 4 New Jersey State Championship. Individually, Chris established a Ramapo record by winning an amazing 29 consecutive dual meets, which today still remains a Ramapo record. For his achievement, Chris was named first team All-League, All-County and All-State. Chris ran indoor track from 1968-1970 and excelled in spring track all four years while at Ramapo. Running from the 1967-1970 seasons, he ran the fastest Ramapo mile ever in 4:14.7. This time enabled him to win the New Jersey State High School Mile Championship in 1970. That year he also became the NBIL, Bergen County and State Sectional Individual Champion. For his achievements, Chris was awarded The Record’s Athlete of the Week. However, his running was not just focused on the mile. Chris also ran the 440, 880 and 2-mile races. His times in these events were also impressive; 2-mile in 9:24, 880 in 1:56 and the 440 in 50.5. Chris continued running at Princeton University (1974) where he was named 1st team All-Ivy Indoor in 1973 and 1st Team All-Ivy Outdoor in 1972. His personal best time for the mile at Princeton was 4:07. Following graduation, Chris became a track coach as well as a teacher and Administrator at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland from 1974-1995. He is currently Headmaster at Tenacre Country Day School in Wellesly, Massachusetts, where he also resides. Single and the father of two grown children, John and Kathryn, he remains active in hiking and kayaking as well as cross-country skiing. Chris has also run a post-college personal best of 2 hours and 27 minutes marathon.
